Helen was born and brought up in Northumberland, a county she stills sees as home.
As a teenager Helen loved writing short stories and poems and spent the next few years sending her work to anyone she could think of – some pieces were even printed!
Despite her passion for writing Helen studied for a degree in science.
Following her degree she worked in the media and now runs a successful London-based character licensing agency, as well as writing hugely popular teenage books. She divides her time between London and the North-East.

- Helen didn't like going to preschool because she was always getting told off for eating dried pasta
- If Helen won the lottery she's go on holiday to Australia for a month to visit family and friends – she'd fly business class of course!
- While studying for her science degree Helen set off the fire alarm by mistake and ended up causing an evacuation of half the hospital
- Helen's favourite children's book is Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar
- Helen owns a lovely little dachshund called Boris
