Born in Bath, Jacqueline Wilson spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first "novel" when she was nine. She started work as a journalist in Scotland where the magazine Jackie was named after her! She has been writing full time ever since, and has become one of Britain's most popular authors of books for children and teenagers. Jacqueline's bestselling books include The Story of Tracy Beaker, which became a BBC TV series, The Illustrated Mum, winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, Candyfloss, Kiss, My Sister Jodie and the Girls series. Her books have been successful all over the world. Jacqueline Wilson was made a DBE (or Dame) in 2008 and was Children's Laureate from 2005-2007. She is well known as an author who loves meeting her fans, and tries to answer as many letters as she can!
