Getting shortlisted got me thinking why I tend to make the majority of my heroines thirteen years old, and I think it's the fact that being thirteen was such an amazing time for me. Amazingly brilliant, amazingly confusing, amazingly exciting, amazingly boring, amazingly ordinary and amazingly extra-ordinary. It was a time of feeling everything in technicolour – even the grey bits.
